To this day, some of my camp friends still remind me of our mischievous deeds. For example, the summer that we got water guns banned from camp. I also remember the first time a pincher bug landed on me (not so fond) & the moment I realized the downside to drinking vending machine coffee beverages every morning. I also reminisce about the "Welcome to Camp" ice cream socials we had every year.
Aside from all of these lovely moments, to this day, I am greatly impacted by how much I learned during music camp. I played in pit orchestras, symphony orchestras, concert band, jazz band, chamber music trios & quartets, and had private lessons. For four (4) weeks every summer, I had the time of my life learning music & making friends. For me, there was nothing I'd rather do with my summers.
While the Summer Fine Arts Camp has long closed & we are quite far from the midnight sun of Fairbanks, Alaska, I have been working the past two years to create lifelong, magical experiences during our summer camps. Not only do children learn an incredible amount in a short period of time, they also have fun doing it! I'm looking forward to another summer of musical memory making (say that 10 times fast!)
